7-Day Italy (Rome) Itinerary


Day 1: Arrival in Rome – Ancient Rome and Piazza Navona


  • Morning: Arrive in Rome and check into your hotel. Start your trip with a visit to the Colosseum, one of the most iconic structures from ancient Rome. Take a guided tour to learn about its gladiatorial history and explore the Roman Forum, the center of political and social life in ancient Rome.


  • Afternoon: Visit the stunning Palatine Hill, where the emperors once lived, and enjoy views of the city. Walk to Piazza Venezia and admire the grand Altare della Patria.


  • Evening: Head to Piazza Navona, a beautiful square surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Admire the Fountain of the Four Rivers and have dinner in a nearby trattoria.





Day 2: Explore Vatican City and Trastevere


  • Morning: Begin your day with a visit to Vatican City. Explore St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the largest and most beautiful churches in the world. Climb to the top of the dome for a panoramic view of the city.


  • Afternoon: Visit the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel to marvel at Michelangelo’s frescoes. Book tickets in advance to avoid long lines. Afterward, walk through St. Peter’s Square and soak in the grandeur of Vatican City.


  • Evening: Cross the river to the Trastevere neighborhood, known for its charming streets and lively nightlife. Enjoy dinner in a local restaurant and sample traditional Roman dishes like carbonara or cacio e pepe.




Day 3: Rome to Florence – Uffizi Gallery and Duomo


  • Morning: Take a morning train to Florence (about 1.5 hours). Check into your hotel and start your day at the Uffizi Gallery, home to masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo.


  • Afternoon: Visit the Florence Cathedral (Duomo), one of Italy’s most iconic landmarks. Climb to the top of Brunelleschi’s Dome for breathtaking views of the city, or visit the Giotto’s Campanile and the Baptistery of St. John.


  • Evening: Stroll across the historic Ponte Vecchio, the city's most famous bridge, lined with jewelry shops. Have dinner in the Oltrarno district, known for its authentic Florentine cuisine and relaxed atmosphere.




Day 4: Explore Florence – Accademia Gallery and Boboli Gardens


  • Morning: Start your day at the Accademia Gallery, home to Michelangelo’s David, one of the most famous sculptures in the world. Spend some time exploring the art and sculptures throughout the gallery.


  • Afternoon: Walk to Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of Florence, and admire the Palazzo Vecchio and its open-air sculptures. Continue to Boboli Gardens, a peaceful and sprawling green space behind Pitti Palace, offering great views and a tranquil escape from the city.


  • Evening: Enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant in Piazza della Repubblica or near the Piazza Santa Croce, and take a stroll around the illuminated streets of Florence.



Day 5: Day Trip to Tuscany – Siena and San Gimignano


  • Morning: Take a day trip to Siena (about 1 hour from Florence). Explore the Piazza del Campo, one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares, and visit the magnificent Siena Cathedral, known for its Gothic architecture and stunning interior.


  • Afternoon: Head to San Gimignano, a charming hilltop town famous for its medieval towers and well-preserved architecture. Walk through the narrow streets, visit the Collegiata di San Gimignano, and enjoy panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside.


  • Evening: Return to Florence for a relaxed dinner. Sample bistecca alla Fiorentina, a traditional Tuscan dish, paired with a glass of Chianti.




Day 6: Florence to Venice – St. Mark’s Square and Grand Canal


  • Morning: Take an early train to Venice (about 2 hours). Check into your hotel and start your exploration at St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco), the heart of Venice. Visit St. Mark’s Basilica, famous for its golden mosaics and Byzantine architecture.


  • Afternoon: Explore the Doge’s Palace, a stunning Gothic building that once housed the rulers of Venice. Walk across the Bridge of Sighs, which leads to the old prison cells. Later, take a gondola ride along the Grand Canal to experience Venice’s unique charm from the water.


  • Evening: Enjoy dinner at a traditional Venetian osteria. Try seafood risotto or spaghetti alle vongole paired with a local white wine like Soave.



Day 7: Return to Rome


  • Morning: Spend your last few hours in Venice exploring the Rialto Market, where you can find fresh seafood, fruits, and vegetables. Visit the Rialto Bridge, one of Venice’s most famous landmarks, for a great view of the Grand Canal.


  • Afternoon: Take a train back to Rome (about 3.5-4 hours). Once back, explore any areas of Rome you may have missed, such as the Pantheon or the Spanish Steps.


  • Evening: Enjoy a farewell dinner in Rome, perhaps near the Trevi Fountain. Toss a coin into the fountain to ensure your return to the Eternal City, and indulge in one last serving of gelato before ending your trip.
