7-Day Japan Itinerary


Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo – Explore Asakusa and Skytree


  • Morning: Arrive in Tokyo and head to your accommodation to drop off your bags. Start your journey with a visit to Asakusa, home to Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest and most famous temple. Walk through the Nakamise Shopping Street to pick up traditional snacks and souvenirs.


  • Afternoon: Make your way to the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest structure in Japan, for a panoramic view of the city. If you're into aquariums, stop by the Sumida Aquarium located at the base of the Skytree.


  • Evening: Explore the nearby Sumida River area for a relaxing evening stroll or dinner at a local restaurant.





Day 2: Explore Tokyo – Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku


  • Morning: Visit the bustling district of Shibuya. Don’t miss the iconic Shibuya Crossing, the busiest intersection in the world. You can also visit the statue of Hachiko, the famous loyal dog.


  • Afternoon: Head over to Harajuku for a unique shopping experience on Takeshita Street, known for its quirky fashion and cafes. Stop by the Meiji Shrine, a serene spot amidst a lush forested park.


  • Evening: Explore Shinjuku, one of Tokyo’s liveliest districts. Visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building for a free view of the city at night. For dinner, enjoy a traditional izakaya meal or visit the famous Omoide Yokocho for street food.




Day 3: Day Trip to Nikko


  • Morning: Take a day trip to Nikko, a UNESCO World Heritage site about two hours from Tokyo. Visit the stunning Toshogu Shrine, dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate.


  • Afternoon: Explore Lake Chuzenji and the beautiful Kegon Falls, one of Japan’s most famous waterfalls. You can also enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Nikko National Park.


  • Evening: Return to Tokyo and relax in a local onsen (hot spring) or unwind in your hotel.




Day 4: Tokyo to Kyoto – Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari


  • Morning: Take the shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Kyoto (around 2.5 hours). Upon arrival, head to Arashiyama to explore the famous Bamboo Forest and Togetsukyo Bridge. If time permits, visit the Iwatayama Monkey Park for a fun view of the city.


  • Afternoon: Travel to the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha, famous for its thousands of vermillion torii gates that lead up to the sacred Mount Inari. Hike as far as you'd like to experience the peaceful, forested paths


  • Evening: Check into your Kyoto accommodation and enjoy a traditional Kaiseki dinner or explore the local Gion district for a glimpse of Geisha culture.




Day 5: Explore Kyoto – Temples and Gion


  • Morning: Begin your day at the stunning Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks. Continue to Ryoan-ji, known for its famous Zen rock garden.


  • Afternoon: Visit Kiyomizu-dera, a temple with an incredible wooden stage overlooking the city. Wander through the charming streets of Higashiyama, filled with traditional shops, teahouses, and restaurants.


  • Evening: Head to the Gion district for a traditional tea ceremony or explore the Pontocho Alley, famous for its excellent restaurants and vibrant nightlife.




Day 6: Kyoto to Nara – Day Trip


  • Morning: Take a short trip to Nara, about an hour from Kyoto. Visit Todai-ji Temple, home to the world’s largest bronze Buddha statue. Explore Nara Park, where you can feed and interact with the friendly sika deer that roam freely.


  • Afternoon: Visit Kasuga Taisha Shrine, famous for its thousands of stone and bronze lanterns. If time permits, explore Isuien Garden, known for its tranquil beauty.


  • Evening: Return to Kyoto and enjoy a relaxing dinner. For a more casual experience, try Nishiki Market for street food or dine at one of Kyoto’s many ramen or soba restaurants.



Day 7: Kyoto to Tokyo – Return and Shopping


  • Morning: Take the bullet train back to Tokyo. Once you’re back, head to Akihabara, the hub of electronics, anime, and video games, for some shopping and sightseeing.


  • Afternoon: Visit Ginza or Shinjuku for high-end shopping or explore the quirky shops of Odaiba if you're looking for something more unique. You can also stop by Ueno Park for a final cultural experience at one of its many museums or the Ueno Zoo.


  • Evening: For your last evening in Tokyo, enjoy a farewell dinner at a sushi or tempura restaurant. End the night with a visit to Roppongi Hills for one last view of Tokyo’s glittering skyline.
